Pearl of the Orient
Far from the madding crowds of urban Hong Kong lies a world of lush country parks, secluded beaches, and clear blue waters teeming with marine life. What’s more, thanks to Hong Kong’s compact size, even the most remote destination is easily accessed within two hours by a Sunseeker yacht cruising at a leisurely 24 knots.
A short trip past the south shore of Hong Kong Island, Lamma Island is a favourite with many day-trippers as it has a relaxed vibe and award-winning seafood restaurants, while providing a welcome break from cars (only bicycles, motorised carts and miniature emergency vehicles are allowed on the island). However, the freedom afforded by a personal yacht means it would be a shame to simply visit a place already well served by public ferries.
Instead, head out to one of Hong Kong’s most seductive and unspoilt stretches of scenery: Double Haven, or Yan Chau Tong in Chinese. Renowned for its tranquil seas even during stormy weather (hence its English name), the harbour is hugged by Double Island, Crescent Island and Crooked Island with north-eastern New Territories, Hong Kong. The majority of the haven falls within Yan Chau Tong Marine Park to protect the precious ecology of Double Haven, an impressively unique location for a business meeting onboard.
For a shorter – though no less spectacular – trip, head to the Ung Kong group of islands. Consisting of Bluff Island, Wang Chau and Basalt Island, the dramatic coastlines here are best appreciated from the sea. Think 50-metre-high sea arches, and sheer cliffs that plunge 140 metres down into the ocean. Yet there are also sheltered beaches on the headlands here, and picturesque areas of hard coral – making it an ideal spot to while away an afternoon.
To take advantage of this hidden side of Hong Kong, simply choose from ‘Rhine’ the Sunseeker 40m yacht, or a brand-new – as-yet-unnamed – Sunseeker 95 yacht. The only question is: Business or pleasure?
