A sense of escape
The recently opened Six Senses Residence in the famous French Alps ski resort Courchevel offers a completely immersive holistic escape for both ski enthusiasts and wellbeing aficionados alike. It’s the first residential spa development in Courchevel 1850 — the highest altitude and most affluent village of the resort — which is renowned for its unsurpassed ski slopes, VIP visitors, fine dining and designer shopping.
Ideally situated in the heart of the village, Six Senses Residences Courchevel offers a luxurious Alpine experience for guests seeking exhilaration on the slopes, combined with the sensory escape of holistic spa treatments, such as signature massages, restorative therapies, facials and body treatments. Also open to non-residents looking to enjoy a day of indulgence, in addition to the spa treatment menu guests may use the swimming pool, sauna, steam room, gym and studio offering wellness classes, complemented by a relaxation lounge, juice bar and manicure-pedicure stations.
In keeping with the Six Senses Residences mantra, the design of the development takes a holistic approach, blending traditional and contemporary elements in tasteful sympathy to its surroundings. Natural materials, such as timber, stone and clay, pay homage to iconic Alpine-ski-chalet style, while the interiors are comprised of specially selected light materials, to create a warm and comforting atmosphere.
Surrounded by such idyllic natural beauty, it was clear from the outset the design would be inspired by nature’s inherent balance and harmony
“Surrounded by such idyllic natural beauty, it was clear from the outset the design would be inspired by nature’s inherent balance and harmony,” explains Alex Isaac, Head of Design at Morpheus London, who furnished the resort.
The interiors cleverly combine spacious minimalism with a cosy and welcoming ambience, to present an inviting respite from the snowy slopes outside. While interiors architect Alain Foeillet focused on contemporary Alpine aesthetics in-keeping with the resort’s mountainous surroundings, Isaac looked to Scandinavian design principles when it came to furnishing the spaces: “The bespoke furniture collections have been directly influenced by the Scandinavian vernacular. The simple elegance and pared-back beauty synonymous with Scandinavian design lends itself well to this alpine environment,” he explains.
The result is a sophisticated look and tone, realised by combining layers of luxurious fabrics and finishes in a soft and refined colour palette that balances calming neutral shades, such as cream, sand and dove grey, with injections of warm colour, such as burnt orange and olive green. “Boasting seamless lines and elegant proportions, each carefully selected item of furniture and decorative accessory is enhanced by luxurious natural fabrics and finishes to ensure it is in keeping with the exquisite location, as well as Six Senses’ holistic values,” Isaac states. “The quality craftsmanship and streamline forms of the furniture evoke the beauty of Scandinavian design to emanate a timeless, modern design.”
With the holistic experience at the heart of every Six Senses Residence, it was essential for Isaac to manifest a visual and sensory thread between the landscape of Courchevel and the ambience of the interior, while remaining mindful of the contemporary expectations of a well-travelled and discerning clientele. It’s no surprise he turned to Scandinavian principles to achieve this, as it’s a region renowned for its holistic approach to life, innovative design ideals and reverence for nature.
