A city with the wealth and prosperity of Dubai wouldn’t be complete without a yachting industry, most of which takes place around the famous Dubai Marina complex, which hosts a zoo, aquarium and world-class shopping. With a number of luxury hotels and resorts onsite, you might wonder why you’d ever want to leave? How about taking in the splendour of Dubai waterfront, stepping onto a yacht and motoring along the coast of this outlandish desert kingdom. Dubai has a number of coastal attractions, the majority of which are all accessible during the short cruise of a day’s charter.
Escaping the often oppressive heat of the mainland can be really quite refreshing. Picking up a yacht from the waterside complex, you can cruise out into the Persian Gulf. Make passage towards the famous Palm Jumeirah and take in the artificial archipelago of islands known as The World (from space, these islands look like a map of the world). The more adventurous might like to head west along the gulf and overnight in Abu Dhabi, before cruising to your intended destination – Sir Bani Yas Island. A slice of the Caribbean in the Arabian Gulf, the island is an oasis of natural wonder surrounded by desert and open ocean. The island was founded in 1971 by Sheikh Zayed who planted several million trees. It now has a private beach resort which is a welcome break from the mainland’s hustle and bustle. Famed for its natural and archaeological attractions, the island also hosts a refuge for mainland wildlife, with hyenas, giraffes, ostriches and oryx all inhabiting this amazing wildlife park. Marine life flourishes among the island’s mangroves and reefs. If you’re lucky you can see dolphins and dugongs (the rare and endangered cousin of the more familiar manatee).
